Rhode Island 2026 — after the primaries

Rhode Island's September 8 primaries resolved and the nominee boards that carried this workspace through the summer have settled. What survives is a general election in which both statewide races are priced as done: Jack Reed holds the Senate seat at 98% on Kalshi and 96% on Polymarket, and Helena Foulkes—who beat the incumbent on a book that priced him at 1.9%—holds the governorship at 95% on Kalshi and 95% on Polymarket.

The one question still trading is the margin. Polymarket's gubernatorial margin board is the busiest political market in the state and it does not have a modal answer: nine buckets spanning twenty points, none of them a favourite.

Nothing else here trades. Kalshi's governor board turned nothing at all in the last 24 hours against $7,802 of standing open interest, and Polymarket's turned $114. This is what a settled state looks like six weeks before an election.

Reed at 98.1 cents on Kalshi against 96 on Polymarket. The two-cent gap is the whole cross-exchange story here, and it has held for weeks.

Raymond McKay takes $179.92 of Polymarket's $190 Senate day—95% of it—while priced at 3 cents. On Kalshi the same leg trades nothing at all against 2,231 contracts of open interest. When a race is settled, the only liquid contract left is the lottery ticket.

The margin board is the only Rhode Island contract with a real distribution left in it: nine buckets, no favourite, and essentially all of the state's political volume. Beside it, the Lieutenant Governor board—listed, quoted and untouched, which is the normal condition of a down-ballot race in a state whose top line is settled.

The deepest-trading Rhode Island market on either exchange is not an election. Kalshi's commercial quahog landings board turned over $3,119 in 24 hours—more than every RI political book combined—with Above 310,000 meat pounds at 18% taking $1,794 of it. It settles in July 2027.

Watch the margin board fill in. Nine buckets and no favourite is what a market looks like before anyone has done the work. As polling firms publish Rhode Island numbers through October the distribution should narrow toward one or two buckets, and the direction it narrows is the only real information this state produces before November 3.

Watch the two-point Senate gap. Kalshi at 98 and Polymarket at 96 on the same outcome is a persistent, small, unarbitraged spread. It is a better illustration of cross-exchange friction than any close race, because nothing about the underlying is in dispute.

Watch the open interest unwind. Kalshi's governor board holds $7,802 against zero volume. Positions on a resolved question are inventory nobody has bothered to close, and when it clears it will look like volume without being information.
